The Old New Romantics

Here's a little video for my February Funk. PT notes the strange color palette: "like all bruise colors." Bingo!

Why can't melodrama be chic again? I want more men drinking martinis with hook-hands and tarantulas on faces at parties ... instead I settle for watching "Real Housewives of New York" on an endless loop.

  1. I'm getting a new-wave version of that Meatloaf Beauty/Beast video here. Am I crazy? Or just Oscar-ed out?

  2. You know Ultravox is starting their reunion tour in April in the UK-I wish they would come here. Martinis, hook-hands, and tarantulas might be expecting too much. I'd be happy with champagne, cocktail hats, pearls, and gloves. I wore a vintage Chanel black tulle hat to dinner the other night and I think everyone assumed I was insane. Anyway, great song and great video.

  3. OMG yes, Tommy. "I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" -- I think by that he meant "cut my hair or stop wearing pirate shirts."

SR2, you go on with your black tulle hat. The right people will always understand. I'd love to wear more hats but my cranium's big enough to have its own satellites. :-(

  4. I love it. Brings back memories - lip-syncing to this at boarding school in England. I love that this whole period is coming back or did it ever leave?

  6. What we need is a New Romanticism revival. Neo-New Romanticism or New Romanticism Nouveau, depending on one's linguistic roots.

  7. Nick, I adore your blog...the Wisteria ottoman seriously has me thinking. And don't get me started on "The Real Housewives of NYC" -- after last week's blowout episode with Bethenny and Kelly, I'm sinking deeper and deeper into a very dangerous obsession.
