I'm Having a Sol LeWitt/Donald Judd Moment

And so is West Elm:

Or do we still just call this 'Parsons style'? Discuss.

  1. Love Donald Judd...even have that book, I picked it up at Cooper Hewitt when they had a Donald Judd exhibition...sigh. I also love your West Elm picks and featured the bedside tables in my Spring Picks! Regarding parsons or not...I think the parson term refers to that design when there are no stretchers present, but I pulled that out of my head and not a textbook, so take it for what it is worth...not much. I hear Marfa calling my name;)

  2. I vote for calling these grid inspired pieces sol lewitt style. When I hear Parsons, I think of a more open image that is less interlocking, maybe more rectangular. Sol LeWitt evokes an image of grids and overlapping pattern. The bright colors definitely feel lewitt!

Can't you just see a wall (or entire room!) paneled in a lewitt inspired pattern? Daydreaming...

  4. Ooh! I've been looking for a decent twin bed for my son--this is so cool. Most twins are pretty lame, especially for kids. Thanks for the post. Now, if only I could switch the "arm" to the other side for his room layout. I like those top-drawer side tables too. Boxy!

  5. I love Donald Judd's furniture! I recently made a daybed/sofa for a friend's t-shirt shop based on one of Judd's designs (mixed in with a little Rietveld). I was not aware of Sol Lewitt, so, thank you for that!

  7. It goes to show you that design keeps going on when the design is good! Love Judd!

  8. These are all striking pieces. They'd be like a little modern (innocuous) design note in most spaces, I think.

Parsons, Smarsons, Tim Gunn. Who cares?

  9. I agree that Parsons style makes me think of something more open without the interlocking grid. Great post, love the sources.

I agree, for the most part, but don’t you feel as if the issue is more complex than that?
