Let's Hear It For The Boy

all images via The New York Times

So my friend Zach's teensy Brooklyn studio is featured in the NY Times today, basically redeeming The Grey Lady's recent home offerings (lest we forget this and this). Total chicness! Z's a fierce do-it-yourself-er -- would you ebonize your own floors?? -- and packs more style into 178 square feet than most folks do in a five-bedroom house. Goes for scale and mixes muddy and pure colors with gusto. If Thomas O'Brien and Wes Anderson had a theater major lovechild, he'd live here. Bravo, Zacquisha!

  2. What is that very cool black and white piece hanging perpendicular to the lips? Any idea? The slideshow doesn't mention it . . .

  3. Um, hello no we did not forget. Those 2 articles had me thinking I was just a skip hop and a jump from getting my little apartment painted on that woman's home page. Now, I guess I will have to get back to work in order to be worthy. Le sigh.

  6. W-O-W! Your friend, Zach, is tremendously talented. I live in a studio and struggle, daily, with fitting everything that I want into this small space. He's created a gripping domestic puzzle. No doubt I could endlessly wonder around in those 175 square feet and find many things to spark inspiration.

  11. This is excellent. There's a lot going on, but it's just shy of being too much or too distracting. He has some great styling going on as well.

  12. I cannot believe this is less than 200 square feet. I will not believe it. I will come there, mix myself a drink at that little cocktail area (#$@%!&@!) and pull out my measuring wand to verify. Then, if it is less than 200 square feet, I will toast that little junk picker friend of yours because he freakin' ROCKS the shit outta that space. Total inspiration!

  13. I was really thinking the NYT was dying a slow and torturous death, but they may be a ray of hope. Thank god they printed something awesome!

Do all your friends have such good taste?

  16. My favorite touch is the Chinese Ringneck pheasant (the non-native state bird of the great state of South Dakota, btw) in the Smithsonian section of the room.

  18. My house is not often exposed to decorative stuff only once every two years but I think it's due for check up. I'm gonna have to change the color of my room and change everything around.
