Why is just about everything worth buying at Ikea not available online? Hmm?? I guess the whole idea is to get you in the Big Blue Box, remind you of all the shite you never knew you needed and stuff your gullet with cinnamon buns and meatballs in the process, but I JUST CAN'T MAKE IT TO PARAMUS THIS WEEK. Sure, they let you check stock at your local store, but what are the odds that the single remaining unit of this
rug will actually be there when I finally show up in a borrowed Volvo station wagon? And while we're on the topic of rugs:

I love
this simple, pseudo-sisal situation in a modified chevron. So why is it only available in floor mat and runner size? Can't a brother get an 8x10???
I feel the same way, but add to it that if you actually CAN order something online...you'll more than double your price with shipping. Which is why I do not have my Expedit shelving. :(

I was actually toying with hitting Red Hook this weekend. Let's split a Zipcar and I'll bring a pitcher of blended margs.
ReplyDeleteI had the EXACT thoughts earlier this week about that same rug and the whole never-what-I-want-online thing. I have to drive three hours to a different state to get to the nearest Ikea. If I have to rent a truck I might as well buy something expensive. Ridic.
ReplyDeleteIn NYC, you can hire someone for 100 bucks to travel to all the diff Ikeas and bring it home for you... May not be worth it unless you are getting a lot of crap and then it is really really worth it!
ReplyDeleteGoogle Ikea Alternate Delivery.
I'll chime in here with the nearest IKEA being 8 hours away. Getting to Brooklyn? That's nothing.
ReplyDeleteWhen I go, I bring an extra suitcase - at least. And have to explain to compatriots why one of my biggest tourist attractions in any lovely city is the Big Blue Box. Which so often necessitates a car, since it's in the middle of the freeway nowhere.
Oh well. At least it's not in Sweden.
I'm just glad I'm not alone. Keehners, I'll be in Raleigh this weekend teaching a class with Mrs. Meares, but B.Y.O.Margs might make that Swedish Superfund Site bearable. The following??
ReplyDeleteI have also wonder why that exact rug doesn't come in different (larger) sizes.
ReplyDeleteThis is why all NYCers must have a relative in Jersey. I can't tell you how many times my aunts in Manhattan would call us in Ridgewood to get something for them and drive it in. They got their item, us kids got David's Cookies and orange soda (not allowed at home), and we saved them money on big ticket items because we didn't have taxes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I've experienced this feeling and called it "Ikea panic" before. :)
nick, i have that chevron rug. it's very...um...almost outdoorsy. not comfy at all for an area rug. i use it in my entryway.

That IS a great rug... I am so with you- why can't the good stuff be available online!?
ReplyDeleteim hoping to make an ikea run this wknd.
ReplyDeletegosh, IKEA around here is like an urban legend. Does it really even exist?
ReplyDeleteI have that rug in my bathroom! I do wish it came in larger sizes though.
ReplyDeletekeehnan and nick at ikea together...pictures please PLEASE!!! i smell video blog!
ReplyDeleteI owned that rug for about 5 minutes. It's crap! The corners never rolled down right and the ol knock about Ikea's quality was in full effect.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to like it, but I had to finally admit defeat and take it back.
omg. i love this rug....such hotness all over it!
ReplyDeletejust found your blog.sooooo glad i did. will be your newest follower!
xoxo
You should go to Ikea it's ridiculous amounts of fun ;)
ReplyDeleteNick, I was dying to have that rug based on it's picture online but when I drove 40 miles to get one, I was severely disappointed. The chevron pattern is not very apparent in person.
ReplyDeleteI loved the piano key rug enough to buy it, but then the pattern actually made me so dizzy (in a dressing room, oren floor) that it had to go. It went to As-is.
ReplyDeleteLord, I hate giving up something and then having to watch it be discounted!
I am a big fan of rugs. You put the right rug on your floor. It makes a world of difference in terms of overall beauty to a house.
