Basket Case Study

These Pottery Barn seagrass baskets are what we call the chic:

For firewood, magazines, orange trees ... $69-$129 depending on size. Compare to Mecox's:

for $315-$425, or Garrison Rousseau's (can't find a direct link but had to mention as I'm desperately envious of that name). He customizes 'em with copper liners for the likes of Tory Burch.

This is one case where the look for less doesn't look too much, er, less.

  1. (Only slightly related...How soon until Tory Burch is the new Liz Claiborne? ...White, blue, and red plastic perfume bottles at Duane Reade? Someone needs to answer this for me.)

  2. Even less related: Does Tory Burch refer to Kate Spade as "that old heifer"?

  3. A Decorno comment! I can die happy now. And I'd give it 10-15 years, some elastic-waist paints, a pantyhose licensee and a few Satanism rumors.

Anon: She better not -- Kate is an ageless swan, and my idol.

  5. Tying it all together... Kate Spade IS now owned by Liz Claiborne, making the transition between those 2 at least quite literal. And Duane Reade is now owned by Walgreens, so the perfumes can be efficiently distributed nationwide...

But the real point - I bought one of those baskets last week, and (truly, not sarcastically) feel so much more chic now that you've endorsed them. Yay. Buying a basket from PB, esp. because I thought it looked good, wasn't great for my self-esteem.

  6. They are really nice but just too much money. Why so much on just a basket?
