It's a Jolly Holiday

Having subscribed to Old Car Trader for three years of my childhood, I pride myself on still being able to identify most makes and models. I know my Firebirds from my TransAms and can tell you what year Mercedes switched to ugly safety bumpers on their SL convertibles (1974).

So it's rare that I come across a completely new, old car. I first spotted the Fiat Jolly in Vanity Fair this month, photographed outside of some high-hedged Palm Beach manse. Is this not the perfect car for summer?? No doors, wicker seats, and an awning-stripe top. I'm obsessed! Apparently only about 100 Jollys remain in existence, but I bet George Clooney keeps one on Lake Como, right next to his Top Secret Waitress Girlfriend Cloning Laboratory.

  4. Oh my gosh I actually snapped a pic of that same little photo in Vanity Fair on my iPhone as a mental note to look up that car!! It also made me want to buy that book the photo was from- Lola and Luna- have you seen it in person?

  5. Love that. One day I'll own a vintage 450SL. It's not so practical for a baby's carseat though...

  8. SO fun! I want a green one. It's sort of like a toy, dune buggy, and golf cart all rolled into one, no?

It doesn't seem to have seat belts, but I'm sure the Highway Patrol would be so dazzled by the copious amounts of style that they wouldn't even notice.

  9. Ooh, 'Lizers, I haven't checked out that book. But I WANT.

Sarah, I want a 450 too and am thankfully not beholden to little tykes' safety, just lack of funds and adequate parking ;-)

Jason, were you also picturing unsightly leg/pant imprints from the wicker?

Preppy101, let's pool our resources and buy a Jolly Timeshare.

T-Dazzle, now I want to start a secondary blog called "Copious Amounts of Style."

  10. I want it. I need it. I have to have it. I miss my smartcar...There is a nugget car convention that pops up in our neighborhood on nice saturdays, and I always just want to pick one, shift it into neutral, and push it off into the sunset with me!

  12. A high school friend had a yellow VW Thing, it was such a tin can. It would be a great beach house car.
