Small is the New F-ING HUGE

I want every last one of you to RUN to your newsstand and pick up the July/August issue of House Beautiful because mi amigo David Kaihoi, a.k.a Lil' Sip o' Jesus, a.k.a. Mugatu's current right hand man, has his apartment on the cover!!!! I die die DIE at its chicness!!!!!!!

He and his family occupy 390 square feet smack dab in the middle of Bohemia, or Avenue C in the East Village, and prove that style and storage can go-hand-in-hand. And since David's humility is only surpassed by his talent I'll give you a little backstory: DIY doesn't begin to cover it where Doodad is concerned. This apartment was a character-free white box when they moved in -- those hefty window and door casings? David installed them. That tufted corner banquette? He built and upholstered it himself. Same for the headboard and kiddie trundle, plus he took on the Chinese wallpaper hanging and patching, all the painting AND most of the artwork (he's also a brilliant collage artist and sculptor) ...

I got exhausted just writing that. Oh and did I mention David and his wife, Chic Monique, both work full-time and have an adorable three-year old? I want to be reincarnated as Mirabelle in my next life just to wear her little outfits. These folks have hipster style and Midwestern soul and I love them to pieces. Biggest kudos ever, Davey!!!!!

Swell Name/Blog

Meet Nick Heywood , who posts on topics I forgot I was thinking about. Like

Imelda Marcos

Encaustic tile,

and Vuillard.

His whole blog is so erudite (drop a quarter in the jar for that word on your way out) and dreamily written it makes my own Haus of Style seem like a double-wide parked under the I-10 overpass.

Bravo, Nick H.!

Gardening with Stephanie Seymour

I like to think this is how she wound down after big fights with Axl, well before allegedly making off with Peter Brant's Warhols in a Range Rover. I like her style.

Shelterpop

Shot a nice little thingee about coffee tables doing double duty at Casa Noodles/Chez Olsen:

The moral of this story, for those of us without a formal dining room/dining table/socially normative dining situation, is threefold: contain your junk, whup out a real plate and flatware even if you're eating Quiznos, and in general just treat yaself right.

3b) Coconut M&M's! Who knew?

Thanks to Amy Preiser and Alys Kenny for a fun day of "Do we like the pig? Should we kill the pig" -- styling bliss!

P.S. Please forgive the unintential "Blue Steel" in photo #7!!
