Cruel Summer

Okay, that season officially begins on the 21st but I'll give you a few guesses as to how I've passed the time since my last post:

- Spending my life's savings publicizing The Rapture and drinking heavily post-May 21st.
- Fathering a love child with my loyal housekeeper, Eric "Mildred" Bana.
- Capturing Osama.
- Worrying about Life After Regis.
- Eating 6,000 calories per day only to place 3rd in the Mr. Utah competition.
- Decorating.

If you guessed #6 (my lucky number), you would be correct. But I've missed mon blog and marvel at how the Ladies Decs, Blandings, Boles and Meares keep theirs up with such consistent wit and chicitude. And at how I asked Keehnan just tonight, "You know that building on 6th between 1st and A that looks like a powerstation where you can always see the light on at the top floor late at night?"

"Yeah, it belongs to _________. I blogged about that three years ago."

A tip of my hat to you, sir.

But I will have big news for you soon, promise. Until then I want you to know that my new favorite color is fuchsia (not kidding), this guy is my new idol, and I take full ownership of the term Mocca-siders:

A moccasin crossed with a Topsider, duh!

On my fabulous new intern Susan's first day I asked her:

"How good are you at tying shoelaces? The lefty one was J. Crew's display model and has a perfect bow, but this one is all wonky."

"Now I see what kind of person you are."

She gets it!

Also, retrospectively, do these three songs constitute a genre? (FORGIVE ME I'M MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME HERE):

I'd like to call it "PEP," which happens to be my BFF Kayka T's nickname pour moi. Gives me the energy to triple-measure for the dining room sisal, assemble the faux Saarinen dining table, and crack wise with the Jonathan Adler employees on a 95-degree day.

Decorating is a contact sport!!

I was worried by your absence. I wish I were your intern. I'm sure my graduate school would accept some credit for a semester spent beading a curtain or tiling your face in mosaic for someone.

  5. You, darling, are worth the wait. Quality over quantity, right?

  6. Brilliant. Also, I do hope that we'll get to meet Susan. An interview, perhaps?

  8. Thanks friendly friends. You make a bloggerator so very happy.

Tommy, I think an interview with Susan is a brilliant idea! Right after she finishes that last load of whites.

And Janet, here I spent a fortune on this mosaic portrait of my giant head and you would've done it for free! How are you at upholstered headboards?

Mrs. B, I want your ArchDigest articles to have a "Like" button.

Meares, which flower's gonna grow: a donkey or a rose? -Hanson
